Early career and training
Megan initially completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science from GMIT in 2019. During this time she also worked as a personal trainer with Mfitness, helping a diverse client population to achieve their goals, as well as working with both children and adults in a swim teaching capacity as well as in a therapeutic capacity, using hydrotherapy to enhance weight-bearing ability, improve range of motion and to provide a relaxing and comforting experience for those at end-of-life along with their families.
Megan then went on to complete a Masters degree in Physiotherapy in 2023 from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. She began her physiotherapy career working in the NHS, treating patients with a variety of musculoskeletal complaints, followed by a year working in paediatrics.
Approach to physiotherapy
Megan's philosophy and approach to physiotherapy and coaching emphasises a holistic perspective, focusing on restoring and enhancing functional movement while prioritising overall health and well-being. Her experience working with both children and adults has given her a deep understanding of the diverse experiences of pain and the varying goals and aspirations of each individual. This background and experience has also fostered her appreciation for the biopsychosocial factors unique to each person. Megan believes in an empowering approach that encourages patients and clients to self-manage with guidance, starting with education and collaboration to achieve their goals. She has a strong belief in the transformative power of exercise and movement in restoring confidence and control, promoting its physical and mental benefits throughout the rehabilitation and training process.
Memberships
Megan is registered with CORU, the regulator for health and social care professionals in Ireland, and is also a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (MISCP).
Personal interests
Megan has competed in a variety of sports over the years from Gaelic football to kickboxing, and is currently working towards obtaining her second black belt in karate.
