  • “If exercise could be packaged in a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and beneficial medicine in the nation.”

Robert Butler, National Institute on Aging

The benefits of exercise are endless – ranging from weight loss, increasing strength and muscle mass, improving bone density and cardiovascular fitness. The benefits of exercise are not just physical however, with emotional and psychological benefits including but not limited to increased confidence and self-esteem, stress management and improvements in symptoms of anxiety and depression. In the long-term, regular activity and exercise can help reduce the risk and/or with the management of a plethora of conditions including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, stroke, cancer and high blood pressure.

Overall exercise may be one of the best tools at our disposal to improve our overall quality of life. It enables us to engage in valued activities and to do the things that we love. However, this is all common knowledge to most of us. The vast majority of us are well aware of the benefits of exercise, however it is generally the ‘how’ that is our downfall! There are many barriers to consistent exercise; perhaps not knowing where to start, what exercises to do, wondering if you are performing them safely, or simply not having the time or the motivation to stick with them long-term.

  • “When looking for a PT, Mark was suggested to me and from my first interaction with Mark I could tell he was enthusiastic and enjoyed the work he was providing. He was very understanding and encouraging. This was important to me as that first step of making the call can be the toughest. I would have never gone to a gym or known how to use the machines in the gym so this was all going to be new to me. In my case COVID arrived when I had just started training with Mark. However, he adapted to this and I was able to continue my sessions online which at first I wasn't sure would work as I had very little equipment but Mark worked around what I had and the sessions were still as good as in the gym. Since COVID has eased I'm back in the gym setting now and I look forward to every session. I've learnt so much in terms of form and the correct way to use the weights and machines. I am more confident walking into any gym now from what I've learnt over the two years with Mark.”

  • “I have attended a gym for a few yrs and enjoyed the classes . But it was only when I started with Mark Durcan that I really felt the difference , his approach and friendliness are amazing . My body is much stronger and I am turning my osteoporosis back my doctor could not believe the improvement. Age does not matter I am 70 ! If you do only one thing for yourself give Mark a call 📞”

  • “Mark was absolutely brilliant! So professional and supportive too. I had a stroke which had left the right hand side of my body completely numb. Working with Mark, I was confident to remove my ankle support. Also tore my rotator cuff and he rehabilitated my shoulder and helped me regain functional mobility! Would highly recommend!”
